The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has reaffirmed the commission's complete readiness for the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The INEC Chair assured citizens and stakeholders of a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process.
Professor Amupitan provided this assurance during a high-level inspection visit to the Commission's state office in Awka, ahead of the Stakeholders' Meeting set for Monday, November 3, 2025.
“Our responsibility is to the people of this nation. We are fully prepared to conduct an election that is fair, credible, and reflects the will of the people,” Prof. Amupitan stated.
He encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate in support of a smooth process.
The chairman also warned against what he referred to as “attempts by vested interests to undermine the process,” emphasizing that INEC remains focused and unwavering in fulfilling its constitutional duties.
Providing an operational update, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Anambra State, Dr. Elizabeth Agwu, confirmed that all non-sensitive materials had been distributed to the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
She further revealed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) has been fully configured, tested, and deemed ready for deployment.
“We have left nothing to chance. From training personnel to deploying materials, every necessary step has been taken to ensure a smooth, credible, and technology-driven election,” Agwu stated.
“Generators have also been deployed to guarantee uninterrupted power supply at critical locations,” she added.
Both the INEC Chairman and the REC highlighted the essential role of collaboration with political parties, security agencies, civil society groups, and the media in ensuring the election's success.
“We are committed to involving every stakeholder in this process. Transparency and partnership are fundamental to our credibility,” Prof. Amupitan emphasized.
As part of the readiness review, the INEC Chairman, accompanied by National Commissioners — Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, Malam Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Professor Abdullahi Zuru, Mr. Sam Olumekun, Prof. Sami Adam, Dr. Baba Bila, and Prof. Sunday Aja — also visited INEC offices in Oyi and Awka South Local Government Areas to evaluate final preparations.
