Alhaji Aminu Babba Danagundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba and one of the principal kingmakers in the Kano Emirate, has insisted that Aminu Ado Bayero remains the rightful Emir of Kano.
He said removing Aminu Ado Bayero through political negotiations or any arrangement outside the judicial process was unrealistic, noting that the matter is already before the Supreme Court.
Danagundi made this known in an interview with Weekend Trust, where he linked the ongoing dispute to the Kano State Government’s decision to repeal the emirate law and the developments that followed.
According to him, the issue can only be settled by the apex court.
“We are simply waiting for the Supreme Court to deliver its ruling,” he said. “I am not aware of any consensus arrangement or who would even initiate such a process, whether it is the state government or the court.”
He maintained that no agreement exists that could divest Aminu Ado Bayero or the Ado Bayero family of the Kano emirship.
“As far as I am concerned, there is no consensus that would take the emirate away from Aminu Ado Bayero or his family,” Danagundi stated.
He also dismissed claims that the case could be withdrawn because of political alignment between the Kano State Government and the Federal Government.
“Some people believe that because the governor is now aligned with the Federal Government, everyone will just agree to abandon the case, but that is not realistic,” he said.
Danagundi further invoked the reign of the late Emir Ado Bayero, who ruled Kano for over five decades without blemish, stressing that his legacy should not be cast aside.
“His son deserves to inherit the position of Emir of Kano, rather than someone from a different family,” he added.
