Adamawa: People with disability push for signing of Rights Commission Bill

Published on July 04, 2025 at 07:54 PM

Members of Persons with Disability, PLWDs, in Adamawa State have entreated the wife of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Hajiya Lami, to facilitate the signing and domestication of a bill for the establishment of the Disability Rights Commission in the state.

The Adamawa State House of Assembly had, in March this year, passed the bill outlawing discrimination against people with disability and setting up the rights commission.

The bill, if finally signed by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, will become a law prohibiting any form of discrimination against persons living with disability.

The North East Zonal Coordinator of the Blind Association of Nigeria, Mr. Jibril Amzaranda, spoke of efforts by the association to make the governor’s wife prevail on him to sign the bill.

This was while addressing newsmen in Yola on Friday, stressing that the bill would mitigate discrimination against people with disability.

He said the bill is also designed to mandate the provision of various support services that would include healthcare, rehabilitation, education, and vocational training for people with disability.

“The plea to the First Lady became imperative in view of her numerous intervention supports to the members of the PWDs through her pet project, Fresh Air Pro-Life Employment Foundation,”; Amzaranda said.

Recalling that Hajiya Lami has frequently helped people with disability in the state by providing for their various needs, he urged his members to reciprocate the gesture and be law-abiding.
