A woman has been sworn in as chairman of the Fufore Local Government Council of Adamawa State.
Mrs Peace Audu was sworn in on Monday to lead Fufore 34 years after the last female to do so, in person of Hajiya Zainab Ribadu, a sister to the current National Security Adviser, NSA, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Before now, Peace Audu served as vice chairman of the local council.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Monday presided over the swearing-in of Peace Audu as the chairman of Fufore, nearly two weeks after the death of the council chairman, Alhaji Shuaibu Babas.
Shuaibu Babas died on April 23, 2025.
There were misgivings over the long delay in formally swearing in Peace Audu to fill the vacant position.
The oath of office and allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahman, at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Yola.
Governor Fintiri described Peace Audu as a cherished member of the PDP family who has consistently demonstrated competence.
He said she had already been acting as chairperson during the late chairman’s illness, to ensure that there was no leadership vacuum.
Making reference to the speculations caused by the delay in the swearing in, Fintiri said his administration is dedicated to equity and there is no place for religious or tribal bigotry.
The governor announced that after wide consultations, Sale Manu had been appointed as the Vice Chairman of Fufore Local Government.
In her remarks, Peace Audu assured the people of Fufore of transparent and purposeful leadership, and expressed readiness for constructive criticism.
