Ahead of the 2027 general elections, six senior officials in the Lagos State Government are preparing to step down from their positions to pursue elective offices.

The aides, who currently serve as commissioners, special advisers, and senior assistants under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, are seeking to contest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for seats in the House of Representatives and the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Their aspirations are tied to the party’s primary elections scheduled to take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026.

Among those who have openly declared their ambitions are Kayode Roberts, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, who is eyeing the Ojo Federal Constituency seat; Sola Giwa, Special Adviser on Transportation, contesting for Lagos Island II Federal Constituency; and Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, Special Adviser on Housing, who is seeking election into the Surulere I State Assembly.

Others include Babajide Obanikoro, Special Adviser on Parastatals Monitoring, contesting for Lagos Island I Federal Constituency; Lekan Balogun, Special Adviser on Economic Planning and Budget, targeting the Apapa Federal Constituency; and Damilola Ayinde-Marshall, Senior Special Assistant on Tourism, who has declared for the Surulere II State Assembly seat.

Sources indicate that campaign posters of the aspirants have already appeared in key areas across their constituencies, signalling the early start of their political campaigns.

Meanwhile, more members of the state cabinet and other government appointees are expected to announce their intentions in the coming days as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
