The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has encouraged Nigerians to transform pessimism into optimism and approach the future with renewed confidence and faith.
The council urged politicians to adopt issue-based politics while avoiding violence, bitterness, and electoral malpractice.
IPAC also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to thoroughly prepare for the upcoming elections and ensure a fair environment for all political parties.
“As we reflect on the past year, it is crucial for Nigerians to recommit to strengthening our democracy and enhancing the quality of our national life,” stated Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, National Chairman of IPAC.
“Nation-building is a collective duty. Every citizen plays a vital role in creating a peaceful, just, and prosperous society. Therefore, IPAC urges Nigerians to be proactive and engaged in issues that impact their lives, emphasizing that the cost of freedom, good governance, and prosperity is constant vigilance.
“The New Year brings both challenges and opportunities to reinforce our democracy, foster national unity, ensure security, and encourage wealth creation. It signifies a new beginning and a renewed call to action in the pursuit of nation-building.
“Despite the nation’s challenging political history, Nigerians have consistently shown resilience and determination in their quest to build a better and greater country. This enduring spirit remains a beacon of hope and strength.
“The year 2026 presents another chance for widespread citizen involvement in the democratic process, including the ongoing voter registration initiative, the upcoming Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, the Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections, and preparations for the pivotal 2027 general election.”
IPAC urged Nigerians to fulfill their civic duties by voting for their preferred candidates and to resist the allure of vote-buying, which undermines democracy and jeopardizes the nation's future.
The council also called on political figures to focus on issue-based campaigns and refrain from violence, bitterness, and other electoral practices that can threaten democratic consolidation.
Additionally, IPAC urged INEC to uphold neutrality as the electoral authority and ensure a fair playing field for all political parties and candidates.
“The Commission must adequately prepare for the upcoming elections, including conducting trial runs of its electoral processes and materials, to prevent avoidable issues that could erode public trust. Rebuilding confidence in the electoral system is vital,” it emphasized.
IPAC reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside INEC and other key stakeholders to deepen and fortify Nigeria’s democracy, promote political stability, and guarantee the successful conduct of elections for the overall welfare of Nigerians.
Regarding the new tax law, IPAC reiterated its stance and urged the Presidency to promptly address the discrepancies between the version passed by the National Assembly and the document published by the Federal Government.
“Resolving this issue in the national interest is essential. What is worth doing is worth doing well, and adherence to the rule of law, which all elected public officials have sworn to uphold, must be maintained,” it stated.
“As we enter the New Year, IPAC calls for collective prayers for sustainable democracy, development, and security. Nigerians are encouraged to replace pessimism with optimism and approach the future with renewed confidence and faith. With God on our side and responsible leadership, the benefits of democracy will be more visible in 2026.”
